2009 State Championships Rules / Information Weigh-in Rules and Criteria BSA advises the weigh-ins for the 2009 State Championships will be held at Waterside Workers Club. Nile Street, Port Adelaide. The weigh-in and medical will commence on Saturday 19 September 2009 between 8.00 am and 10.00 am, and will be between 8.00 am and 9.00 pm on 20 September 2009. ALL nominated boxers must weigh-in and complete the medical on Saturday 19 September 2009 and then ONLY BOXERS competing on Sunday 20 September 2009 are required to weigh-in and complete the medical on that day. The Draw will take place at 10.30 am on Saturday 19 September after the weigh-in and medicals have been completed. The 2 day program will be announced at the same time, i.e. who will box who and what day. BSA Committee reserves the right to change these rules in line with Boxing Australia and AIBA rule changes from time to time. All boxers must be registered and have completed their medicals at least 2 weeks prior to the State Championships commencing 19 & 20 September 2009. Cut off date for all registrations, medical and nominations is at 5pm Wednesday 16th September 2009. Once a boxer has won a Novice Championships in any division they cannot compete as a Novice again. i.e. if you win a Cadet Novice Championship and still have competed in less than 5 bouts, a boxer cannot compete for a Senior Novice Championship. To conform to Boxing Australia requirements, in the 2009 State Championships a boxer will be required to be an Australian Citizen to be eligible to represent South Australia at the 2009 Australian Championships. A Boxer that is not an Australian Citizen is eligible to compete in the SA State Championships only under the following criteria.
A boxer may compete in a higher class if he / she so desires, for example, a boxer who has had four bouts may compete in Open Class. A boxer CANNOT change categories by age i.e. under 17 to senior,. Also the tournament committee reserves the right to place a boxer in a higher class in special circumstances if it is considered that such actions is in the best interest of the tournament and the boxer. Only boxers who win their nominated weight class will be eligible for selection in the State Squad who will be given priority for the 2009 Australian Championships to be held in Canberra ACT from the 3 – 6 December 2009 provided they have been consistently available for local competition throughout the year and meet the requirements set out by the BSA committee and State Coach. A boxer who is unopposed will not be awarded a belt or medal unless the BSA Committee determines the boxer is worthy of it i.e. nominated consistently throughout the year.
All members of Boxing SA Inc. are cordially invited to attend a Special General Meeting for the purpose of electing positions on Boxing SA Inc Committee of Management. Positions on the Committee will be considered for election. Committee positions are President, Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer (office bearers) and 4 general committee members. Any member wishing to nominate a person for a position is required to complete a Nomination Form including acceptance by their nominee and return it to the secretary no later than 5.00pm on August 14th August 2009. Voting by Proxy can be undertaken by completing the appropriate form. Information for applicant’s eligibility to be a committee member is contained within the Constitution of Boxing SA Inc. The Constitution can be found on the Boxing SA Inc website. For any Notice of Motion to be considered it must be placed in writing, by a 2009 financial member, to the Secretary of Boxing SA Inc not less than 7 days prior to the Special General Meeting. AGENDA 1. Elect the Committee for the ensuring year.2. Consider and determine any other business that may be properly brought forward.
Change of dates for the AIBA events Please be informed the following changes on two AIBA Major events in 2009 and 2010 for your reference. 1. AIBA President Cup 2009, Baku (Azerbaijan).
(1st day of competition: December 15, Finals: December 19) 2. AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships 2010, Calais (France)
(1st day of competition: April 17, Finals: April 24)
Up Coming National Events Selection Trials for the Australian Team to the 2010 World Youth (Male) Championships will be held 26-28 February, 2010 The 2010 World Youth Championships will be held 3-10 April in France. It is for boxers born in 1992 and 1993. Its location in France has not yet been advised. Selection Trials for the Australian Team to compete at the 2010 World Youth (Male) Championships will be held 26-28 February, 2010. Member Associations will be able to enter one boxer in each weight category of the Selection Trials. Up to seven boxers may be selected to represent Australia at the 2010 World Youth Championships and each selected boxer will be required to make a financial contribution to help meet the costs associated with his competing at the World Youth Championships. The entry of each boxer by a Member Association to the Selection Trials must be accompanied by the photo identification page of each boxer’s Australian passport current to mid-October, 2010 i.e. no Australian passport current to mid-October, 2010, no entry to the Selection Trials. The foregoing requirement is because of what will be the short period between the Selection Trials and the closing date of entry of boxers to the World Youth Championships and the need for the selected boxers to be able to travel to the Championships. Please note that a boxer who finishes in the first four boxers in his weight category at the 2010 World Youth Championships may be selected by the Australian Olympic Committee to represent Australia at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games to be held 14-26 August in Singapore. Selection Trials for the Australian Team to the 2010 Commonwealth Games (Elite Male) Team and the Australian Team to the 2010 Women’s (Elite) World Championships Team will be held 8-11 April, 2010 Selection Trials for the Australian Team to the 2010 Commonwealth Games (Elite Male) Team and the Australian Team to the 2010 Women’s (Elite) World Championships Team will be held 8-11 April, 2010. Boxers at both Selection Trials must have been born in the years 1976-93 inclusive. The 2010 Commonwealth Games will be held 3-18 October in New Delhi, India. BAI will nominate an Australian Boxing Team to the ACGA which will select the Team. Member Associations will be advised of BAI’s Team Nomination Criteria when it is approved by the ACGA. Additionally, the Nomination Criteria will be posted on BAI’s website. The 2010 Women’s (Elite) World Championships will be held 10-18 September in Barbados. A winner of a weight category at the Australian Selection Trials will have the first option of being selected to represent Australia for that weight category at the Women’s World (Elite) Championships. Unless otherwise advised all entrants for the Championships and the Team coaches should anticipate each will have to meet the costs of their participation in the 2010 Women’s (Elite) World Championships as none of BAI’s sponsors permit their sponsorships to support women’s boxing. 2009 Australian Championships BAI has been requesting Boxing ACT’s advice of the dates for the 2009 Australian Championships (Men’s and Women’s Elite, Youth and Junior categories) and will advise Member Associations as soon as it is received. Please note that the former Under 19 and Under 17 Years of Age categories are now abolished. Boxers eligible in 2009 to compete: in the Elite category are those born in the years 1975-1992 inclusive, in the Youth category those born in the years 1991-92 inclusive, and in the Junior category those born in the years 1993-94 inclusive. Member Associations are asked to note the difference in the years of birth requirements for the Elite and Youth categories between the 2009 Australian Championships and the 2010 Selection Trials. The years of birth requirements meet AIBA rules and change with the change of year from 2009 to 2010. All of the foregoing tournaments will be conducted in accordance with BAI’s Competition Rules. Member Associations must ensure that all eligible boxers registered with their association are given transparently fair and equitable opportunity to win the right to compete in the foregoing tournaments. Member Associations shall conduct selections pursuant to the Competition Rules, in particular in regard to the Selection tournaments, pursuant to Rule 3.1.2. Annual General Meeting Boxing SA Inc. held it's 2008 AGM on Sunday 21 June 2009 at State Association House, 73 Wakefield St., ADELAIDE. Both the Presidents and Treasurers Reports reports were received and there was no other business. Due to a lack of nominations the Office Bearers and General Committee members positions were not opened for re-election. Notices will be sent out in the next week for a Special General Meeting to be held on 9 August 2009 to determine the positions on the committee.

BOXING SA NOVICE TITLES IN MAY Boxing SA will be holding the Novice titles on the weekend of 31st May and 1st of June at a venue yet to be confirmed. NEW CONSTITUTION APPROVED Boxing SA Members voted in its new constitution at the Extraordinary Meeting held on Sunday March the 16th 2008. The Extraordinary Meeting was followed by the 2007 Annual General Meeting which was conducted in accordance with the new constitution. Boxing SA Inc has now met the requirement of Boxing Australia Inc in regards to Corporate Governance. 2008 NEWS Boxing SA Inc. wish to advise its members that a Presentation / Registration day will be held on Sunday the 24th of February 2008 at Foxy's Gym, 25 Research Rd Pooraka. Boxing SA would like to thank Terry Fox for his kind generosity in providing his gym. Program;
Boxing SA will be holding its first Tournament on the 8th of March 2008 at the Woodville Town Hall. Currently there is approximately 20 bouts matched. Boxing SA Inc. will be holding an Extra Ordinary Meeting on the 16th of March 2008 at State Association House 73 Wakefield street 1pm. The aim of the meeting is for current financial Members to approve and pass the new Boxing SA Constitution as per Boxing Australia Inc. instructions. This meeting will be followed by an Annual General Meeting (AGM) held under the new Boxing SA Inc. Constitution once approved at the Extra Ordinary Meeting. Once Boxing SA Inc. has completed this process it will then be compliant with Boxing Australia Inc. requirements. For interested candidates Boxing SA will be looking for the following positions to be filled at the AGM;

Rod with drew as Team Manager the week before the State Team departed for Brisbane due to unforeseen circumstance and was replaced by Brian Casey. SA Vs WA August 17 2007 (In Perth) A team of 4 boxers and 2 coaches traveled to Perth Friday morning to contest the SA Vs WA Challenge Cup. Results; Troy Dale (WA) defeated Tom Morison (SA) 22-7 Ben Johnston (SA) defeated Laith Samardi (WA) 16-9 Brian Johnston (WA) defeated Ben Hisee (SA) RSC Rd 2 Paul Rose (SA) defeated Anthony Princey (WA) 4-2 Charlie Coumi - Coach Ray Johns - Coach Congratulations to Ben Johnston (SA) who was awarded best boxer. Boxing SA congratulates the Coaches and Boxers on an excellent performance and also would like to thank Boxing WA for their invitation and hospitality. Boxing WA presented Boxing SA with the Challenge Cup although it was a draw with SA winning 2 bouts and WA winning 2 bouts.

IMPORTANT NOTICE Change to BSA Tournament Dates The BSA Committee has made changes to tournament dates due to the fact that the Australian Championships have been moved to December. The Australian Championships will be from 6th-9th of December in Brisbane, Queensland. The South Australian State Championships have been shifted From the 12th-14th October to the 2nd-4th of November. Tournaments scheduled for the 25th of August has now been moved to the 22nd of September and the 8th of September tournament shifted to the 1st of September (refer to information page calendar of events for full details) Remember Boxing SA will be selecting a team to travel to Perth, Western Australia on the 17th of August for the return match, SA Vs WA.

SA Vs WA June 2 2007 Congratulations to Western Australia (WA) on a strong performance on Saturday night. WA won 6 of the schedule 9 bouts with South Australia (SA) winning the other 3. WA retained the SA Vs WA Challenge Cup. It was a great night of boxing with good even matches, well done to all involved in the matching of the bouts. Billy Rankin (64kg) of WA was award best Boxer. Congratulations Billy. BSA would like to say thank you to all the volunteers, Officials, Boxers, Coaches and the new Judges who officiated on Saturday night your efforts were well appreciated . NewsArafura Games News (14-18 May 2007) GOLD FOR SA BOXER 64kg David Biddle (Para Hills) won the Arafura Games Gold medal in his division. 75kgTim Parker (Northside) and 91kg Mostyn Nieman (Northside) won Arafura Games Silver medals in their divisions. Boxing SA is very pleased with the results and would like to congratulate all three boxers on an outstanding performance. Boxing SA also congratulates State Coach Don Mckay on an excellent coaching performance. Boxing SA would also like to congratulate Charlie Coumi (Para Hills) Coach of David Biddle. Local Boxer Paul Rose Travels to Tasmania for a Bout BSA would like to congratulate Paul Rose (75kg) and Coach Rod Davis from the Glenelg Boxing Club on an excellent effort in Tasmania on the weekend (26/05/07). Paul boxed a local lad in James Carter to be defeated narrowly on points. |
